If you go to the internal pages you probably get warnings like the following:
(The exact wording is very dependant on the browser you are using. The examples below are taken from Firefox 3.)
![[BOTTOM] [BOTTOM]](/_static/mentalwealth/img/moin-bottom.png)
Warning number one
Secure Connection Failed
internal.en-cps.org uses an invalid security certificate.
The certificate is not trusted because the issuer certificate is unknown.
(Error code: sec_error_unknown_issuer)
![[BOTTOM] [BOTTOM]](/_static/mentalwealth/img/moin-bottom.png)
Warning number two
Secure Connection Failed
internal.en-cps.org uses an invalid security certificate.
The certificate is only valid for www.oefd.at
(Error code: ssl_error_bad_cert_domain)
This happens because connections to the internal pages are encrypted. To encrypt something on the WWW you need a certificate which is issued by a certificate authority. This authority in turn is authenticated by another certificate inside of you Webbroser (i.e. Firefox).
I use cacert.org as a certificate authority (Because it works very well and it is for free). Unfortunately some (all ?) browser do not include the cacert.org root certificate - therefore you get warning number one.
This is easy to fix by simply importing the cacert.org root certificate. You can find it here: http://www.cacert.org/certs/root.crt (clicking on the link should do the trick). You'll be asked if you want to trust that certificate - say yes.
The second warning is a bit different. For technical reasons it is not possible to use more than one certificate on one IP address. So i have to use one certificate for all Websites on our server and you get a warning that this certificate is not valid because it is issued for "www.oefd.at" and you are trying to connect to "internal.en-cps.org".
I am afraid the second warning can't be fixed easily. But as long as it doesn't say anything different than the above you are very safe.
BTW: I am not sure about all the browsers out there, but i.e. Firefox 3 can permanently add exeptions for Webpages like "internal.en-cps.org". This way you do not get the warning every time because you can allow a certain warning to be accepted. One more reason to use Firefox
